Nigeria’s biggest football gameshow powered by premium beer Star Lager has seen some interesting matchups over the past five weeks, with encounters ranging from closely-fought, tight affairs to end-to-end, all-guns-blazing stuff. This week’s episode however, served up a delicious tactical masterclass as Positive FC made up of Oliver Chilem Udorie, Ernest Alakiri, Mayowa Akinsola, Francis Enujekwu and Olayinka Ariwajoye, put up a performance whose well-calculated strategy was befitting of Arsenal and Barcelona, the two clubs the team members support.

On the receiving end of the schooling was Adoration United, made up of Oyetunji Oyebisi Adeyemi, Ejike Chukwunyelu, Francis Miller Oghenewedhe, Eze Okwuchukwu Collins and Mohammed Lateef Babatunde, a quintet of Manchester United fans. The show host was Mozez Praiz and as soon as he signaled kickoff, Positive FC made the most important move of the night, scoring 20 points through Oliver to advance to Adoration United’s goal before they had a chance to settle.

From this point, Adoration were always on the back foot and even though Ernest and Mayowa both missed their questions for Positive FC sandwiched by misses from Bisi, Ejike and Francis for Adoration, it was only a matter of time until Positive went 1-0 up through Francis Enujekwu’s calm 10-point tap in. Okwuchukwu and Mohammed then missed for Adoration as Positive’s Olayinka Ariwajoye ended their first half on a high with a correctly-answered 20-pointer.

The second half continued in this pattern with an increasingly nervous Adoration United missing two of their three questions. They narrowly avoided conceding another goal as Positive FC scored two of their three second half questions correctly, leaving the full time score at 1-0 but with a huge point gap in favour of Positive FC. Mozez Praiz kicked off extra time with the debate segment and Adoration had a route to claw their way back into the game or else go 2-0 down via audience votes by speaking on the topic: “Great Players Decline When They Join Manchester United: True or False?”

Positive FC’s Oliver faced off against Ejike of Adoration and the debate was hard and furious. Who won? Mozez Praiz announced the result of the audience vote – a goal to Positive FC! With the score at 2-0 and only one round of competition left, the game was already sealed, but Adoration at least salvaged some dignity by winning the ‘Show Your Passion’ segment to end the game with the score at 2-1 in favour of Positive FC.

The quintet of Arsenal and Barcelona fans thus got to take home the grand prize of N1 million and this week’s bragging rights as Superfans of all superfans, while Adoration FC’s Manchester United fans had to make do with the N250,000 consolation prize.
